About MASQ
It is a permission slip. To say what you actually think. To be who you actually are. Without consequence.
The Founding Story
In 2023, a researcher studying generational conflict ran an experiment. She asked 400 people across four generations the same question: "What do you actually think about the generation above or below you?" Under their real names, the answers were careful, diplomatic, and largely identical. Polished.
Then she asked the same question anonymously. The answers were raw, honest, sometimes painful — and almost always more interesting. More true. The mask had not hidden the person. It had revealed them.
That researcher became one of MASQ's founders. The insight became the platform: what if anonymity wasn't a bug in online communication, but the feature we'd been suppressing? What if the mask was the point?
MASQ was built to test that hypothesis at scale — across 127 countries, 47 languages, and six living generations. The animal identity system was designed to give each person a consistent, non-human persona that carries reputation without carrying identity.
Philosophy
01
The internet taught us to fear anonymous speech. But the problem was never anonymity — it was the absence of consequence within a community. On MASQ, your animal carries your reputation. You can be anonymous to the world and still be known within the ball. That's the difference.
02
Every social platform asks you to perform a version of yourself — curated, optimized, audience-aware. MASQ removes the audience. Your animal was not chosen by you. It was calculated from the facts of your birth. You cannot optimize a tiger. You can only be one.
03
The loudest voices in generational discourse are the most extreme. The Silent generation and Gen Alpha have almost no shared spaces. MASQ was built to put them in the same room — without the baggage of names, faces, or platforms that have already decided what each generation thinks of the other.
The Animal System
We considered usernames. We considered avatars. We considered numbers. Animals were the only option that carried meaning without carrying identity.

At the masquerade ball, the Duke dances with the servant. The old man speaks to the child. The enemy laughs with the enemy. The mask does not hide who you are. It hides who they think you are.
